Gamecocks pass through Citadel in Charleston

South Carolina baseball defeated The Citadel 11-7 on Wednesday night.

The South Carolina baseball team traveled to Charleston on Wednesday night for their first of four consecutive fights. Facing a Citadel team that entered the game in 4-6, the Gamecocks found themselves in a close battle with their local enemy.

The South Carolina pitching team struggled a little, allowing seven runs and 13 hits for the Bulldog bats. Citadel entered the competition with 0.295 points as a team, and that high-powered attack was able to make Gamecocks sweat for most of the game.

The Bulldogs jumped to a 2-0 lead at the start of the first inning, leading the table with three consecutive strikes against South Carolina titleholder Josiah Sightler.

The Gamecocks took the lead again in the third, when Sightler hit a double double-out to the left center in a four-race inning.

The two teams exchanged blows on Wednesday, before The Citadel regained the lead at the end of Friday on a Cole Simpson home run. Tony Skole’s team would maintain the lead for another frame, but an eighth entry from six races would give Gamecocks an 11-6 lead and eventually end the Bulldogs’ chances of a turnaround.

Reliever Andrew Peters scored his second victory of the year, while Citadel pitcher Logan Barker lost to 0-2 this season.
