South Carolina made the cut last week with running back Jaylon Glover of Lakeland, Florida.
Glover, a three-star contender, included Gamecocks in his top 10 schools. He plans to visit the USC on June 11.
“South Carolina did a great job recruiting me,” said Glover, ranked 34th among running back recruits in the country. “Coach (Shane) Beamer and the team, we ended up showing affection throughout the process. He’s doing a very good job. I just like what they are doing ”.
Beamer and his new running back trainer, Montario Hardesty, had to restore momentum to the Gamecocks with Glover, generated by former running back trainer Des Kitchings. He put the USC in good shape and Hardesty made things even better.
“Coach Des Kitchings and I were very close. That was my guy, ”said Glover. “Coach Hardesty filled in and it doesn’t look like he missed a beat. Definitely a fireman. He is very down to earth and can relate to many things that I did because he went through the whole process. “
Other major Glover choices are Michigan State, USF, Purdue, West Virginia, Tennessee, Florida State, Louisville, Utah, Georgia Tech, UCF and Iowa State.
Last season, Glover ran for 1,588 yards and 31 touchdowns and was named county’s Offensive Player of the Year. In three seasons, he ran for 4,023 yards and 54 touchdowns.
Orlando’s Speedy CJ Smith wide receiver recently named one of the top 10 that included USC. And last week he identified four schools that will receive official visits in June. It will begin in Arkansas on June 4, followed by USC on June 11. He also plans to visit Florida and Auburn in June.
“It is very difficult to make a decision based on virtual aspects. I really have to see everything. ” Smith said.
Smith is one of Florida’s best track and field athletes. He said he will run the 100 meters, 200 meters and the 4×100 relay in college.
The offensive attack Grayson Mains (6-5, 265) from Suwanee, Georgia, announced a commitment to the USC last week, becoming the Gamecocks’ second commitment to the 2022 class.
Mains chose USC over Tennessee and Michigan State.
“South Carolina has exactly what I want to study in Sports and Entertainment Management,” said Mains. “I really believe that Coach Beamer and Coach Adkins are going to start something great there, and I really want to be a part of that.”
Mains is classified as a three-star potential customer on 247Sports Composite and is ranked number 62 in the national offensive tackle in the class. Some of its other offerings include Air Force, Duke, State of Arizona, State of Mississippi, Wake Forest, Purdue, UCF, West Virginia and East Carolina. Mains scheduled his official visit to the USC for the weekend of June 11 and said his appointment ended his recruitment.
Hammond’s running back, CJ Stokes, made two official visits for June and would like to make five before making a decision. Stokes scheduled a trip to Missouri for June 11 and another to Michigan for June 18. Vanderbilt is also talking to him about an official visit.
USC has also been a major player for Stokes, but living 15 minutes from campus, he is unsure whether an official visit will be necessary.
“I’ve been on visits to South Carolina more times than I can count, so I already know what it looks like, how it all feels,” said Stokes. “The only thing that I really need to join is the new team. See more about what they are and get to know them in person. This is probably not going to happen until June. So, I’m looking forward to it. I don’t think I need an officer to really get to know the team. “
Some of Stokes’ other offerings are Penn State, Minnesota, Duke, Louisville, Wake Forest, Tulane, Appalachian State, Liberty and Middle Tennessee State.
Clemson managed to reach the top five with a highly awarded offensive tackle Kiyaunta Goodwin (6-8, 305) from Charlestown, Indiana. The others are Alabama, Michigan State, Ohio State and Kentucky.
Clemson’s offensive coordinator, Tony Elliott, and offensive lineman Robbie Caldwell are recruiting Goodwin for the Tigers. They offered in late February and gained a lot of ground over the other candidates.
“(Caldwell and Elliott) told me that I am the best tackle on their board and they want to make me a Tiger,” said Goodwin. “I really like Coach Caldwell. He’s really realistic and honest. We had been talking for a while and there were some things that I needed to do academically. As soon as I solved that part, Coach Caldwell made the offer to me with Coach (Dabo) Swinney on the phone. “
Goodwin is the No. 1 recruit in Indiana and the fifth national offensive striker in the 247Sports Composite.
USC was in the top 10 with defensive tackle Felix Hixon (6-4, 280) from Jackson, Georgia. The others are Arkansas, Florida, the State of Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Wisconsin, Virginia, Louisville and Georgia Tech.
USC is in the top 10 with the Dane Key of Lexington wide receiver, Ken. The others are Virginia, Kentucky, Michigan, Wisconsin, Oregon, Mississippi, Arkansas, Virginia Tech and Purdue.
Tyrus Washington, a tight end from Leesburg, Georgia, added the USC to their shortlist, which went from six to seven teams. The others are Ole Miss, South Florida, Arkansas, UCF, Cincinnati and Kansas State.
USC offered defensive end DJ Wesolak from Boonville, Missouri, who is also a target for Clemson. He also received offers from Florida, Southern Cal and Northwestern. Wesolak plans to attend Clemson’s Elite Retreat in June.
USC and Clemson target tight end Oscar Delp, who scheduled an official visit to Florida for June 11.
Clemson was in the top 5 with running back Branson Robinson from Madison, Mississippi. The others are Alabama, Georgia, LSU and Tennessee. Robinson is classified as a potential four star customer and is ranked number 7 in running back nationally at 247Sports Composite. He ran for 1,179 yards and 15 touchdowns last season.
Clemson is in the top eight with safety Azareyeh Thomas from Niceville, Florida. The others are Florida, Georgia Tech, Oklahoma, Miami, Alabama, LSU and Louisville.
Basketball
USC basketball coach Frank Martin added to his list on Saturday when playmaker Chico Carter Jr., 6-2, announced he would be transferred from Murray State. Carter trained at Cardinal Newman and signed with the Racers in 2019.
“Many schools came to me and wanted me to participate in their program, and one of them was South Carolina,” said Carter. “Of course, I’m from Columbia and it caught my attention a lot. Their team has recruited me since high school and, leaving the transfer portal, it’s about finding the best option for you at your next school, and I feel that South Carolina will give me the best opportunity to fulfill my goals ”.
Carter, who averaged 13 points per game last season, also received offers from College of Charleston, Hampton, High Point, Youngstown State, Winthrop, Saint Louis, North Carolina A&T, Elon, Arkansas State and Charlotte.
Former Sumter star CJ Felder (6-7) announced last week that he will be transferred from Boston College to Florida. He had also talked to Clemson.
USC offered Tyrell Ward (6-5) from Dematha Catholic in Hyattsville, MD. It also has offers from Maryland, Indiana, Seton Hall, George Mason, Wake Forest, Georgetown, Georgia and LSU.
Baseball
The USC got a commitment from right-handed pitcher James Hicks of Junior College of Crowder (Arkansas). This season, Hicks is 5-0 with an ERA of 3.25. He has 36 kills in 36 entrances and a hike.
