Gamecocks face Tulsa in the second round of the HOF Classic

South Carolina basketball prepares for game 2.

South Carolina lost their season-opening match to Liberty on Saturday, meaning they will play a second-round match with Tulsa in the second round of the Hall of Fame Classic on Sunday afternoon.

Golden Hurricane fell to TCU in its first round by a score of 70-65. Tulsa was commanded by point guard Brandon Rachal, who led all scorers with 19 points. He was one of three Golden Hurricane players to reach double digits.

South Carolina is trying to get back on track after a poor performance against Liberty. Gamecocks hit just 39% of the field, including a miserable 3 out of 17 beyond the arc. South Carolina was led by last year’s top scorer AJ Lawson, who scored 12 points out of 5 out of 11 shots. Jermaine Couisnard and Keyshawn Bryant also reached double digits.

South Carolina will need to do a better job of defending its perimeter as it has allowed Liberty to connect in 11 of its 26 three-point attempts. The Flames shot more than 56% as a team, including that 42% clip of three.

Tulsa will try to improve after hitting just 4 of his 18 shots beyond the arc. Despite the three-point fights, Golden Hurricane still managed to hit 50% of the field. They will also need to block the outside from a defensive perspective, as the Horned Frogs hit 11 of 27 trios in yesterday’s match.

Gamecocks will try to get back on track while trying to repair the ship and make way for the NCAA Tournament. The game will start at 13:00 and will be broadcast on ESPN 2.
