Gamecocks eliminate rust, home Rattlers win

The long-awaited South Carolina home debut for the 2020-21 season had to wait until the second day of January. An insufficient group of Gamecocks (2-2) shook off the rust for three weeks to defeat Florida A&M 78-71.

With nine players to work with the head coach Frank Martin relied on its two most talented players AJ Lawson and Jermaine Couisnard – to do the work at Colonial Life Arena. Contributions from Seventh woods and Ja’Von Benson were instrumental in their first game at the Gamecocks.

Carolina’s biggest advantage beyond the final score was also seven points, 57-50, eight minutes into the second half. That leadership turned into a deficit of 61-59. Lawson and Couisnard combined scored 12 of the team’s 19 final points scored in the last nine and a half minutes.

Below is an analysis of notes from two MVP’s, four quotes, seven games, recapping the Gamecocks’ home debut of the season. If you are accessing this story on the Plan’s Proving Grounds message board, click the link below to read the full story.
