Gamecocks only managed to play 16 games in 2020 before the season was suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but they started 12-4 with a few sweeps in the series and things seemed to be looking up after a rough couple of seasons. As South Carolina prepares to start a new season this spring, D1baseball ranked the team 18th in its search among the top 25 in the preseason.
Eight other SEC teams were ranked in the vote, including Florida (No. 1), Vanderbilt (No. 4), Ole Miss (No. 6), Mississippi State (No. 7), Arkansas (No. 8), LSU (No. 12) , Tennessee (No. 19) and Auburn (No. 23).
The Gamecocks also ranked 21st in the pre-season of Collegiate Baseball, a Fab 50 poll, which was launched in December.
The 2021 South Carolina baseball calendar has yet to be announced.
