Gamecocks Announces Beneficiaries of Scholarships Endowed in 2020-21

The University of South Carolina Athletics today announced the recipients of 18 scholarships in seven sports and the Gamecock Club. Scholarship recipients are selected each year by the sport’s head coach or department head.

The 2020-21 recipients of the scholarships are:

Cam Tringali is a right-handed second-year pitcher with a 4.77 ERA and a pair of SEC Academic Honor Roll selections during his first two seasons. Thomas Farr joined Gamecocks last season after two seasons in junior college and hit 14 hitters out of 15.2 entries launched in the shortened 2020 season for COVID. Brett Kerry it was a selection of Freshman All-America of 2019 that opened the 2020 season by 2 to 0 with a defense and an ERA of 3.60 in six matches. Wes Clarke received honors from Third All-America Team in 2020 with a best team of eight home runs and 22 RBI in 16 matches. Daniel Lloyd recorded 46 strikeouts in his career 38.1 innings launched.

Luke Colwell is a senior graduate in finance and marketing from Apex, NC, in his fourth year working with the men’s basketball program. Ryan Prendergast is also in his fourth year with the team as a senior human resources trainer in Rockville Center, NY.

In women’s basketball, junior Victaria Saxton was ranked among the SEC’s top 11 kick blockers in each of the past two seasons and averaged 5.4 points in just 15.5 minutes per game off the bench last season. Striker Aliyah Boston became Gamecock’s first national freshman of the year in 2019-20 and matched the name of her scholarship by winning the Lisa Leslie award.

The six scholarships awarded to football include three specific awards for each position. Senior quarterback Jay Urich he also spent time on the wide receiver and on special teams before shoulder surgery in 2020 ended his career early. Tight end Nick Muse joined Gamecocks before the 2019 season and quickly established himself as the last in a long line of outstanding tight ends. Defensive discharge Keir Thomas appeared in 40 games, including 25 matches, going into the 2020 season. Spencer Eason-Riddle was the first Gamecock to be part of the 22-man Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and was the winner of the Gamecock Men’s Leadership Award at the 2020 All Sports Gala. Shi Smith entered the 2020 season as the best receiver for Gamecocks and tied for 12th place on the list of all-time receptions on the program. Gamecock 2019 Harold White GPA award winner, Tyreek Johnson is a sophomore redshirt defensive lineman looking to overcome injuries that have hindered his Carolina career so far.

Female golf student Pauline Roussin-Bouchard is responsible for the best freshman season in Gamecock history, earning honors from First Team All-America and a place on the final list of the 2019 ANNIKA Award. His average score of 71.27 last season was the second lowest in the program’s history.

Senior male soccer player Kyle Gurrieri was named captain of the team this season after showing a strong leadership presence in the locker room, despite several injuries throughout his career at Carolina. He scored his first career goal earlier this season against the State of Georgia.

A graduate student from Ashburn, Va., Heather Stone holds the South Carolina 6K cross country school record, along with the third fastest time in the 5K. In athletics competitions, she is among the top 10 in the program in five different events, including the second fastest 10K, which earned her a fourth place in the SEC Outdoor Championships 2019.

Recently graduated in South Carolina, Natalie Werner assists in the operations of Major Gifts and the Gamecock Club. She graduated magna cum laude from the University in May with a degree in public relations and worked in Gamecocks’ football department as a recruiting assistant during her time as a student.
