South Carolina football acquired wide receiver Ahmarean Brown from the NCAA transfer portal. Brown announced his plans to transfer Georgia Tech to South Carolina on his instagram account on Thursday afternoon.

The 5-10 and 170 pound receiver, native of Tampa, Florida (Jefferson), has played the last two seasons at Georgia Tech. Brown managed 33 passes for 619 yards (an average of 18.8) and eight touchdowns in 20 games over two seasons in Atlanta. He led the Yellow Jackets in receptions (21), yards (396) and touchdown receptions (7) in 2019. In the second year in 2020, he had 12 receptions for 223 yards (an average of 18.6) and a touchdown in eight games. He entered the transfer portal on December 11.

Brown was potential player # 661 of 247Sports Composite, # 86 wide receiver and # 81 in Florida for the 2019 recruiting class. He committed to the Yellow Jackets and signed his letter of intent on December 19, 2018, on the state of Iowa and Minnesota. Brown initially pledged on April 14, 2018 to Maryland. He reopened his recruitment on November 13, 2018. He did not have an offer from South Carolina to leave high school.

Wide receiver is a great need for Gamecocks under the head coach of the first year Shane Beamer. South Carolina’s attack was hampered by the lack of explosive moves in the passing game. Offensive Coordinator Mike Bobo could not count on any other wide receiver besides the senior Shi Smith, who led the team with 57 receptions for 633 yards and four touchdowns. Smith, who is in the Top 10 in the program history for receptions and receiving yards, will not return in 2021, having already declared that he will enter the NFL’s 2021 Draft.

The next best receiver, in terms of statistics, was the junior Jalen Brooks, who was not released to play until the fifth game of the season due to a transfer feature. Brooks had just 11 receptions for 100 yards in six games. Other wide receivers on the 2020 list are junior redshirt Chad Terrell, junior Josh Vannsecond year red shirt Dakereon Joyner, second year Xavier Legette and freshmen Rico Powers, Ger-Carl Caldwell and Mike Wyman. Redshirt senior Randrecous Davis and junior redshirt OrTre Smith are receivers who have chosen to leave for the 2020 season.

The 2021 subscription class includes a three-star wide receiver O’Mega Blake (Rock Hill, SC / South Pointe) and wide receiver three stars Sam Reynolds (Alabaster, Ala./Thompson).

Beamer’s lonely spot as a technical assistant on the offensive side of football is lost. Joe Cox should not return after a season as coach of Carolina receivers.
