Gamecock Women Win Sixth SEC Tournament Title in Seven Years

After a regular season that produced some unknown moments, the South Carolina Gamecocks women’s basketball team concluded the SEC tournament in a very familiar way: as a champion.

Winning the program’s sixth SEC title in seven years, Gamecocks eliminated a rookie team from Georgia 67-62, showing some resilience with a third quarter race that helped seal the deal after one came and went in the first half took to a tied score at halftime.

Aliyah Boston, the tournament MVP, had a dominant performance with 27 points and 15 rebounds – her third double-double in the event. Destanni Henderson and Zia Cooke also won selections in all tournaments, with Henderson scoring 18 points and nine rebounds, while Cooke added eight points. Brea Beal appeared for the Gamecocks as well, dumping nine key points to trigger the late execution of the Gamecocks.

I’ll let the legend of the A’ja Wilson show summarize:

The seventh South Carolina (22-4) will now await their selection for the NCAA Tournament, which will be announced next Monday, March 15th. Currently, ESPN’s Bracketology has Gamecocks classified as seed number 1, opening game against NC A&T. Due to COVID’s precautions, the tournament will be played mainly in San Antonio, with locations in Austin and San Marcos also being used for the first round.
