Former South Carolina defender Patrick DiMarco announced his retirement from the NFL on Thursday afternoon.

DiMarco played in South Carolina from 2007-10. He appeared in 52 games and totaled 38 catches. It also served as a key blocker for Gamecock backbacks and was a key cog in special team units. DiMarco recently returned to his alma mater. Gamecocks Head Coach Shane Beamer he was a technical assistant at Columbia throughout DiMarco’s university career.

DiMarco, 31, has been a member of Buffalo Bills since the 2017 season. He was released in September 2020 when he and the Bills agreed to a deal due to a neck injury. He started his NFL career with Kansas City, appearing in five games in 2012. He moved to Atlanta, where he had the most successful season of his career. He spent four seasons with the 2013-16 Falcons, which included a race for Super Bowl LI. Throughout his nine-year career in the NFL, DiMarco appeared in 115 games (started 52), with 52 receptions for 404 yards and four touchdowns. He was nominated for the Pro Bowl for the 2015 season.
