Gaetz reacts to NY nursing home scandal: media ‘absolutely guilty’ in Cuomo’s ‘mythology’

Representative Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., Is blaming the media for putting New York Governor Andrew Cuomo on a pedestal despite his inadequate treatment of the coronavirus pandemic, including withholding unfavorable information about the deaths from the state’s COVID-19 nursing home, according to a senior advisor.

The aide reportedly told Democratic leaders that the government was concerned that the data “will be used against us”.

“The media is absolutely guilty of promoting this Cuomo mythology that is contradicted by the facts,” he told “Justice with Judge Jeanine” on Saturday. “And the facts are getting more and more ugly.”

Gaetz explained that the media treated Cuomo as an “oracle” of the pandemic while targeting former President Donald Trump for his response to the virus.

“The 45th president has put us on the path to developing a faster and safer vaccine that the world has ever known,” he said. “And we are still seeing the consequences of President Trump’s actions in saving lives and, unfortunately, we are just beginning to discover how far Governor Cuomo’s actions cost lives.”

The congressman said Cuomo and his team managed to reduce the number of deaths by ignoring patients who were exposed in nursing homes but died in hospitals.

“They were doing this to cover up the choices they made that put blood on their hands,” he said.

Gaetz called the coronavirus response in Florida compared to New York as a “story of two governors”. In Florida, he said, the National Guard was used to ensure that nursing homes remained free from virus contamination, while younger and less affected generations were given free will to “live their lives”.

“While in New York they destroyed small businesses, they destroyed education,” he said. “And then the people they should look after more, they put them in greater danger.”
