Warner Bros. announced that his Mad Max: Fury Road prequela Angry will be released in theaters on June 23, 2023. Let’s hope we’re still alive until then!

George Miller returns to direct the action film, which will see Anya Taylor-Joy assume the role of badass originated by Charlize Theron. It will be accompanied by a Chris Hemsworth as Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, and you can expect another even younger actress to be cast as a 7-10 year old Furious as well.

Miller co-wrote the script with Nico Lathouris, and the prequel will explore Furiosa’s story before she helps Max Rockatansky in the desert. Miller will also produce the prequel next to Doug Mitchell through its Australia-based company, Kennedy Miller Mitchell.

The team below the director’s high-level line will include the production designer Colin Gibson, editor Margaret Sixel, Sound mixer Ben Osmoand makeup artist Lesley Vanderwalt, each of whom won an Oscar for his work in Fury Road, While Guy Norris will serve as stunt coordinator.

It is not clear whether Max’s character will make an appearance in Angry, but if it does appear, it is unlikely that Tom Hardy would repeat its role of Fury Road because just like Furiosa, Max would be a lot younger in this movie, and maybe not so “crazy” yet. As such, this prequel works like a spinoff, as this long-running franchise has focused on Max since Mel Gibson played the character for the first time in 1979.

Angry it currently has the weekend of June 23, 2023 for itself, although the film is released a week after an untitled Pixar film and a week before an untitled animated film by Illumination Entertainment. The announcement reinforces WB’s commitment to the theatrical experience after 2021, which will see the studio simultaneously launch its screen on HBO Max to the dismay of many filmmakers and stars.

Mad Max: Fury Road raised $ 375 million worldwide, and you can check out our review of this milestone in a recent episode of Collider Movie Club featuring Hector Navarro.
