A fully vaccinated Oahu health professional contracted COVID-19 after a recent trip to the continent, but has no symptoms.

The Health Department said Thursday in a written ad that recently identified the case.

The worker received two doses of the approved COVID-19 vaccine, according to the guidelines, and completed the series in early January.

The individual traveled to several cities on the continent about a month later.

The pre-trip test was performed for the person and a travel companion before returning to Hawaii.

His positive results were received after his arrival in Hawaii.

Neither developed any symptoms and there was no transmission to close contacts, the Department of Health said.

Laboratory samples could not be obtained for sequencing, the Department of Health said.
