Fujifilm has announced a new pancake prime lens for the X-System: the XF 27mm f / 2.8 R WR lens. With its main feature being its compact size, the lens still promises high image quality, despite its compact design.
The 27 mm f / 2.8 is one of Fujifilm’s thinnest and lightest lenses and measures 2.44 inches (62 mm) in diameter and is only 0.91 inches. (23 mm) long, while weighing just 3 ounces (84g).
The lens has an aperture ring with an f-stop scale so you can visually check and adjust the aperture without having to use the viewfinder or camera screen, which is likely to be appreciated by Fujifilm users. The aperture ring also has Position Lock A (Automatic), which locks the lens in Position A to prevent unintended adjustments to the opening during use.
Although small, the lens is still weather resistant. Fujifilm says the weather resistance was applied at seven locations on the lens to protect against water and dust and allow it to operate fully in temperatures as low as 14 ° F (-10 ° C).
Somewhat unusual for a pancake-shaped lens, the 27 mm f / 2.8 comes with a dome-shaped hood and a cover cap in addition to the standard lens cap.
The lens is made up of seven elements in five groups, including an aspherical element that, according to Fujifilm, attenuates spherical aberration, field curvature and distortion. As a result, the company promises “amazing image resolution” even at its grand opening.
“Since the diameter of the image circle needed to cover an APS-C sensor (28.4 mm) is so close in size at the focal length of 27 mm f / 2.8 from XF,” writes the company. “The lens produces high quality images exclusively, while presenting an incredibly compact design.”
The XF27mm f / 2.8 R WR is expected to be available in March for $ 400.
