Fry’s Electronics, original retail chain, closing

Fry’s Electronics, known for its bizarre themes in some of its stores, from Aztec to “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland”, is closing.

The network of tech experts looking for an obscure part said on Wednesday in an online post that the COVID-19 pandemic made it impossible to continue.

“The company will implement the closure through an orderly liquidation process that it believes is in the best interest of the company, its creditors and other interested parties,” said Fry in a statement.

The statement continued: “The Company closed its regular operations and started the liquidation process on February 24, 2021. It is expected that carrying out the liquidation through this orderly process will reduce costs, avoid additional responsibilities and minimize the impact on our customers. , suppliers, owners and associates, and to maximize the value of the Company’s assets to its creditors and other interested parties. “

The statement added: “The company is in the process of contacting its customers with repairs and consignment suppliers to help them understand what this will mean for them and the proposed next steps.”

The chain, founded 36 years ago, was concentrated on the West Coast, but had 31 stores in nine states.

Neil Saunders, managing director of GlobalData, called this “the end of an era and a sad day” for an army of loyal customers.

Fans immediately went to Twitter to post images and memories (good and bad).

The pandemic caused a lot of damage to retailers, but Fry was already being martyred by online competition and a battle between the big brands Best Buy and Amazon.

Wild subjects became more of a burden than an experiment, Saunders said, and when the current began to struggle, breaches began to appear on the shelves of the cavernous deposits, making them a shell of what they once were.

“Fry’s was really a business built for the electronics boom of the 1980s. At that time, it was a meeting place for enthusiasts in a burning industry,” said Saunders. “However, those days are gone and now there is also an icon that represented them.”
