Formula 1 goes on the small screen with Netflix in a film about an F1 driver who is forced to become an escape driver to save his family.
Directed and produced by Gerard McMurray, ‘The Formula’ will star Robert De Niro and Star Wars actor John Boyega.
“It’s amazing to see that idea in my head finally come to life that I’m writing, directing and producing,” wrote McMurray on Instagram.
“My new production company, Buppie Productions, is teaming up with Tribeca Films and Netflix to bring you an amazing original film soon to be called THE FORMULA, starring two of my favorite actors, John Boyega and Robert De Niro.
“It is the story of a young man from Detroit who becomes a star of international motorsport in the world of Formula 1 under the tutelage of his mentor with longstanding ties to the Mafia.”
However, everything goes wrong when he is forced to become a getaway driver to save the only family he has left.

The film is Netflix’s latest foray into the world of Formula 1.
In 2019, Netflix brought Formula 1: Drive to Survive to life, which documented life in the paddock during the 2018 championship, “broken alliances and renewed rivalries”.
The second season, which was around 2019, was released at the beginning of last year.
It was announced as a revisit of “Daniel Ricciardo at Renault, follow Pierre Gasly’s emotional roller coaster in a year and highlighted the Belgian Grand Prix weekend, which was darkened by the death of Formula 2 driver Anthoine Hubert during the special race ”.
There was no official release date announced for Formula 1: Drive to Survive season 3.
The introduction, however, has already leaked online.
