Frogwares is asking people not to buy The Sinking City on Steam

With The Sinking City returning to Steam, Frogwares is asking you not to buy it.

According a tweet from Frogwares, the version of The Sinking City on sale on Steam “was not created” by the team.

The studio has not published any additional updates on the subject, but it probably has to do with a dispute between the developer and the publisher of the game Nacon, formerly Big Ben Interactive (thanks, GI.biz).

In 2020, the studio withdrew the game from the market and terminated its contract with Nacon due to allegations that the publisher owed money to meet milestones, resulting in Nacon having Frogwares close to € 1 million in royalties.

Last month, the game was returned to digital stores due to a decision by the Paris Court of Appeals stating that Frogwares had terminated its contract with Nacon in “a manifestly illegal manner”.

Last week, when the game was released on PS5, Frogwares released a statement saying it was the developer and publisher of the version; however, the PS4 release has a separate editor and different game IDs. This is due to the continuous “technical situation” and legal situation, which resulted in the lack of updating the platform for the PS4.

Hopefully, the issue between the two will be resolved soon, and Frogwares will provide more information about the version that is now available through Steam.
