“It’s funny when patients arrive, they say I didn’t even know I could get it at the dental office,” said Dr. Alex Denes, from Fresno Dental Studio.
In January, the state approved an emergency waiver allowing California dentists to administer the COVID-19 vaccine during the pandemic.
Dr. Alex Denes, along with his wife Dr. Claudia Denes, completed several training and safety courses required by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The process also required the purchase of a special freezer to store the doses of the vaccine.
“We had to go through a lot of approval processes and local inspections and everything. We have built an online scheduling system that anyone can use, so we are vaccinating patients and not patients too, ”said Denes.
Dr. Denes said he decided to open his dental office as a way to help the community during the pandemic.

“Of course, the vaccine is provided by the government, so we don’t charge anyone for anything. The most important thing is that they use the online pre-booking system – they get all the paperwork in order, so we simplified the process so we won’t wait when they come in. “
According to Dr. Denes. his office receives between 200 and 300 doses of Moderna vaccine per week.
He hopes that, when offering his services, more local dentists will join him in volunteering to administer the injection.
“I think I am one of the few, I do not want to say that I am the only one, because I would like to encourage others to do the same and I hope they are more,” he said.
