During a segment on CNN last month, the former chief of Planned Parenthood said there was a “very narrow window” for the Biden government “to link the reopening policy to vaccination status”. Despite being filmed a few weeks ago, the segment has gone viral on social media in recent days.
According to Daily Wire, she also warned that as states are reopening, people may not be vaccinated because they would leave and begin to enjoy their freedom.
“My main concern is that we will not achieve collective immunity because of the hesitation of the vaccine,” said Dr. Leana Wen. “And I know that it is difficult for many people to believe, that they desperately want the vaccine now. And they’re thinking, ‘Oh, well, it’s just a small percentage of people who are anti-xxxxxers.’ And this is true. “
“There is an anti-scientific and anti-xxxxx contingent,” continued Wen. “But I think there are a lot more people, millions of people who, for whatever reason, have concerns about the vaccine, who just don’t know what it offers. And we need to make it clear to them that the vaccine is the ticket back to pre-pandemic life. And the window to do that is really narrowing. I mean, you were mentioning, Chris, about how all these states are reopening. They are reopening at 100 percent. “
“And we have a very narrow window to link the reopening policy to the vaccination status,” added Wen. “Because otherwise, if everything is reopened, what will be the carrot? How are we going to encourage people to actually get the vaccine? That’s why I think the CDC and the Biden administration need to be a lot bolder and say, ‘If you get vaccinated, you can do all of those things. Here are all those freedoms you have, ‘because otherwise, people are going to go out and enjoy those freedoms anyway. And I fear a situation of entering the fall, where we will never achieve herd immunity, and then we will be hit by the next wave of COVID-19, in the fall, something that we could have avoided if we just vaccinated people now. “
Leaving aside the obvious and brutal irony of the former head of Planned Parenthood teaching others about being “unscientific”, when his former organization exists primarily to murder babies in the womb while calling these actions a “human right”, we need to look at another dangerous ideology demonstrated by your comments.
Dr. Wen is part of a “liberal” elite that sees itself as unique and intellectually qualified to determine what is best for “the rest of us”. His comments were replete with examples of arrogant presumption, like saying “the vaccine is the return to pre-pandemic life” in the context of asking “what will the carrot be?” Even more worrying, there is a phrase that stands out in terms of its blatant authoritarian nature.
“That’s why I think the CDC and the Biden administration need to be a lot more bold and say, ‘If you get vaccinated, you can do all of those things. Here are all those freedoms you have, ‘because otherwise, people are going to go out and enjoy those freedoms anyway. “
These words are an intentional bastardization of the meaning of freedom, particularly in the “American” sense. Freedoms are not provided by the government, Joe Biden or the CDC. These figures and organizations are not the “gatekeepers” to these freedoms. In fact, they exist entirely for protect those freedoms.
The phrase “people are going to go out and enjoy these freedoms anyway” is perhaps the worst part of all. You enjoy privileges. You do not “enjoy” freedoms.
Freedom is a God-given right. If we allow the notion of freedom to be diluted into nothing but a privilege sporadically offered by our “intellectual superiors”, then we are no longer truly free.
