A Bahamas hotel chain hopes to attract American travelers with a unique offer: take Covid-19 and get it for free.
Baha Mar guests can take the Covid-19 rapid test on site and, if any of these swabs are positive, they will have the option of a complimentary private home jet or a free 14-day quarantine in a suite with a daily credit $ 150 dinner fee.
“We hope that, through this program, our guests will feel confident when booking a stay with us, as well as valued and supported by the Baha Mar family, should problems arise during the trip,” said the hotel chain about “Travel with confidence” initiative.
The program was launched three weeks ago and is still in operation, a company official said on Friday.
It was not clear on Friday whether any recent guests of the Grand Hyatt Baha Mar, SLS Baha Mar or Rosewood Baha Mar were forced to take advantage of the luxurious Covid-19 giveaways.
“In this ever-changing travel environment, our goal is to alleviate the concerns of travelers around Covid-19 in an effort to ensure the health, safety and comfort of our guests,” said Baha Mar in a statement.
“Our ‘Travel with confidence’ program is the first of its kind in the industry, giving travelers more peace of mind and the option to return home safely or quarantine at no extra cost – the choice is theirs.”
The effort to attract Americans is a far cry from the spring of 2020, when citizens of the United States, with more Covid-19 deaths than any other nation in the world, had relatively few travel options. But Bermuda has been a stable option for Americans seeking an escape since July 1.
