Free NFL agency: 49ers will host Super Bowl champion QB Joe Flacco on a visit

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reported that the 49ers are hosting veteran QB Joe Flacco on a visit as a potential backup for Jimmy Garoppolo. Flacco won $ 1.5 million last year and would likely sign a similar one-year deal with San Francisco.

Flacco made 134 attempts last season and completed 55% of his passes with a 6/3 touchdown rate for interception. It would be an upgrade from the current crop of backups on the list, but this is a low barrier to overcome.

At 36, Flacco must have impressed 49ers quarterback coach Rich Scangarello, who coached Flacco in New York and Denver. Scangarello must have told the bosses of the 49ers that Flacco is great behind the scenes, which is what matters for a backup. Their job is to assist the initiator in preparing.

Some believe that this is an endorsement by the team to bring Garoppolo back. Flacco can also be a beginner’s teacher. I’m not sure if that matters, since Flacco would be earning less than $ 2 million a season.

How would you feel about Flacco’s arrival at the 49ers?
