The Philadelphia Eagles have not been active in the free agent market until now, but they have filled an important position of need as a defender. Philadelphia signed with former Super Bowl MVP Joe Flacco after a successful free agent visit earlier this week by your agency JL Sports. Flacco will be the second defender behind Jalen Hurts in 2021.

Flacco is leaving a season as a reserve for Sam Darnold on the New York Jets. He ended up starting four games in New York, completing a career drop of 55.2% of his passes for 864 yards with six touchdowns for three interceptions and a passer rating of 80.6. The Jets averaged 16.25 points in Flacco’s four games, but averaged 27.5 points in the last two games – including a record of the season with 28 points in their week 11 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

The 36-year-old Flacco started 175 games since his 13 seasons in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos and New York Jets, compiling a 98-77 record. Flacco completed 61.7% of his passes for 40,931 yards with 224 touchdowns and 144 interceptions (84.1 passer rating).

Flacco did his best job in the postseason, where he went 10-5 in 15 games with the Ravens while throwing 25 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions (a score of 88.6). He ended with one of the best post-seasons in NFL history leading the Ravens to the Super Bowl XLVII title, completing 57.9% of their passes for 1,140 yards with 11 touchdowns and zero interceptions for a passer rating of 117.2 – winning MVP honors from the Super Bowl after going 22 from 33 to 287 yards and three touchdowns and zero interceptions (124.2) in a 34-31 victory over the San Francisco 49ers.

The Eagles are looking for a veteran mentor for Hurts, and Flacco is the guy.
