Washington Nationals added another addition to its schedule. The club signed outfielder Kyle Schwarber for a $ 10 million one-year contract on Saturday, confirmed Jim Bowden of CBS Sports HQ. Nacional has yet to announce the signing.

Schwarber, March 28, was not offered by the Cubs last month. It was designed to earn approximately $ 8 million through arbitration in 2021, although the shortened 60-game season played a key in the arbitration models. Schwarber had a bad season of 2020, reaching 0.188 / 0.308 / 0.393 with 11 home runs in 59 games.

The Nationals added Josh Bell, who is similar to Schwarber in that he is a powerful hitter with a big advantage coming from a low year, in a three-player exchange with Pirates last month. The regular numbers for Washington’s lineup look something like this:

  1. SS Trea Turner
  2. RF Juan Soto
  3. 1B Josh Bell
  4. LF Kyle Schwarber
  5. 2B Starlin Castro
  6. C Yan Gomes
  7. CF Victor Robles
  8. 3B Carter Kieboom
  9. Pitcher’s Place

Soto moved to the right at the end of last year and was expected to remain there in the future. Schwarber’s signature confirms that this will be the case. Once universal HD becomes permanent (has not yet happened, but is expected before the opening day) the Nationals could bring back the Ryan Zimmerman franchise icon.

Bell and Schwarber are below average defenders – Robles is an excellent central defender and I’m guessing Nacional hopes he can mitigate Schwarber’s shortcomings a little – so Washington expects them to get back into shape at the base in 2021. hit 37 home runs in 2019 and Schwarber reached 38. Its positive side is considerable.

The Nationals followed their victory in the World Series 2019 with a record of 26-34 in 2020. With Bell and Schwarber now on board, Washington could still use aid on third base and behind the plate, as well as on the back of the rotation.
