‘Frasier’ reboot on Paramount Plus? Kelsey Grammer Sitcom Eyes Revival

Enter the requirements for salad and scrambled eggs here, because the long gestation Frasier the revival may finally be about to break out.

TVLine has learned exclusively that Paramount + – the streamer that will soon be previously known as CBS All Access – is revolving around the years-old project, in which Kelsey Grammer reprized his iconic role as Dr. Frasier Crane. (Frasier is obviously a property of Paramount.)

A Paramount + representative did not respond to TVLine’s request for comment. A spokesman for CBS TV Studios, however, declined to comment.

News of the new potential iteration first appeared in July 2018. At the time, it was revealed that the revival would find the Grammer psychiatrist in Seattle moving to a different city. The following month, Grammer emphasized that the quality limit was understandably high, given the story of the stories in the original series (Frasier won 37 Emmys during his 11th season).

“[We] you have to make sure it’s going to be a great show, ”he said at the time. “If it’s not a big show, and if we don’t hear a pitch that hits outside the park, it probably won’t happen.”

In addition to Grammer, the comedy starred David Hyde Pierce as Niles Crane, Frasier’s younger brother; Jane Leeves as Daphne Moon, Frasier’s resident housekeeper and Niles’ eventual love interest; Peri Gilpin as Roz Doyle, the producer of Frasier’s radio show; and the late John Mahoney as Martin Crane, Frasier’s father.

According to sources, the hope is that Pierce, Leeves and Gilpin would all be involved in the revival in some way. If the project has a green light (and an insider says it is still very much in the What if stage), we were told that filming could start as early as this summer (after Grammer ended production in season 1 of his upcoming ABC multi-cam comedy, still untitled, co-starring Alec Baldwin).

As previously reported, CBS All Access will be renamed Paramount + on March 4. The new service will combine original content with CBS programs and cable channels MTV, Comedy Central, BET, Paramount Network and Nickelodeon.

Paramount + recently commissioned a revival of popular Nickelodeon comedy Icarly, with original stars Miranda Cosgrove (Carly), Jerry Trainor (Spencer) and Nathan Kress (Freddie) all ready to return.
