Fourth Houston area resident accused of US Capitol riot – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A Houston-area man accused of throwing a table drawer and other items at police officers and breaking a window during the January 6 attack on the United States Capitol was arrested, federal officials announced on Friday.

Shane Jenkins was arrested Friday morning at his home, according to the FBI’s Houston office.

According to a criminal complaint, Jenkins attended the Washington rally in support of President Donald Trump and then joined the crowd that broke into the Capitol.

FBI agents identified Jenkins from a tip and videos posted on social media and security footage. They claim he used an ax to cause $ 1,500 damage to a window and threw several items at the police, hitting them with items like a desk drawer and a flagpole, according to the criminal complaint.

At least five people, including a Capitol police officer, died of the violence, and two other policemen killed themselves later. More than 300 people have been charged with federal crimes.

Jenkins faces six charges, including assaulting a federal officer and damage to federal property. The court records did not list a lawyer for Jenkins.

Authorities said Jenkins is the fourth Houston area resident accused in the riot.

Since February 26, according to the George Washington University Extremism Program, federal charges have been brought against more than 254 people associated with the riot, including Richardson’s North Texans Garret Miller; Larry Rendall Brock, from Grapevine; Savoy’s Nolan Cooke; Jennifer Leigh Ryan, from Frisco; Guy Wesley Reffitt, by Wylie; Troy Anthony Smocks, from Dallas; Nicholas DeCarlo, from Burleson; Daniel Goodwyn from Corinth; Jason Hyland, from McKinney; Katherine Schwab; Luke Coffee, from Dallas; and Daniel Caldwell, from Cologne.
