Four-star QB Clay Millen resigns from Arizona

Snoqualmie (Wash.) Quarter Si from Mount Si Clay Millen opened his recruitment.

“I’m opening up my Arizona recruitment and disengagement,” said Millen.

It wasn’t a complete shock for Millen to open things up – he pledged to Kevin Sumlin and Noel Mazzone in June.

But when Sumlin was fired in December, just before the initial hiring period, Millen decided to postpone the Wildcats signing.

Shortly after, Arizona hired Jedd Fisch as their head coach and Mazzone were not retained in Arizona, with Jimmie Dougherty and Brennan Carroll brought in to train quarterbacks and coordinate the attack, respectively.

He chose Wildcats after being offered by Pac-12 schools like Colorado, Oregon and Oregon State.

The connection to the Pac-12 is deeply linked to Millen’s family – his father, Hugh Millen, was a defender in Washington in the 1980s before playing in the NFL, while his older brother signed with the Ducks in the 2019 class.

Younger Millen supported Cale in his first two years at Monte Si before taking over as a junior for the Wildcats as a junior in the 2019 campaign.

And he made the wait worthwhile, getting big numbers in his first year as a starter – shooting for 3,145 yards, 34 touchdown passes and just one interception while leading the Wildcats to the state WIAA 4A semifinals.

Although Millen is a three-star in the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings, he is a four-star and a member of the Top247 in 247Sports, ranked 13th national style professional quarterback and potential number 6 in Washington State in 2021.
