Four people in Michigan are sharing the $ 1.05 billion Mega Millions lottery prize

The names of the four people who won the Mega Millions $ 1.05 billion jackpot in Michigan on January 22 were not released.

Michigan lottery officials said the four people belong to an Oakland County lottery club called The Wolverine FLL Club.

“A member of the club saw a sign that the prize was up to $ 1 billion and remembered that he had not yet bought the tickets, so they joined Kroger,” said club representative and lawyer Kurt D. Panouses , to the press release.

The group chose to receive the award in a single installment of $ 776 million, officials said. After taxes, the club will take home $ 557 million.

“This kind of money will impact the families of our club members for generations to come. We plan to remain humble and pay it through charitable donations in southeastern Michigan,” said Panouses.

The winning ticket was purchased at a Kroger in Novi, Michigan.

Kroger received a $ 50,000 bonus commission for selling the ticket, but the store plans to donate the money to the Michigan Food Bank Council.

“Kroger is committed to our mission to nurture our communities,” said Rachel Hurst, manager of corporate affairs at Kroger Co. in Michigan.

In the past three years, the lottery has raised $ 3 billion for the Michigan School Aid Fund, lottery commissioner Brian O. Neill said in the statement.

“When you play, of course you dream of winning, but the reality of that is incredible,” said Panouses.

The biggest lottery prize of all time was $ 1.586 billion divided by three tickets in January 2016. The second highest prize was a Mega Millions ticket that won $ 1.537 billion in October 2018.
