Fortnite’s newest hero: GI Joe’s Snake Eyes

The world of GI Joe, Hasbro’s line of military children’s toys (and the last line of defense against the terrorist organization Cobra), is now in Fifteen days.

GI Joe’s GI Joe’s Snake Eyes is the latest hero to join the battle royale game from Epic Games, joining names like Din Djarin and Grogu (also known as Mandalorian and Baby Yoda), Master Chief of Halo, Kratos of God of War and Sarah Connor and the Terminator T-800.

Epic sparked the addition of GI Joe characters on Thursday, when the creative director Donald Mustard tweeted an image of himself reading a vintage comic collection from Marvel GI Joe. In particular, Mustard was reading issue # 21 of the Marvel book GI Joe, in which Snake Eyes embarks on a rescue mission in a Cobra castle. This edition shows Snake Eyes jumping from a C-130 plane, in Fifteen days where-we-droppin’-boys style.

Fifteen daysThe current season is all about heroes of distant dimensions. Chapter 2 Season 5 of Fifteen days features a story arc called Zero Point, which focuses on Agent Jones’ mission to summon reality hunters beyond the Epic game.

The current incarnation of GI Joe, rooted in 1982 toy ownership, has been explored in cartoons, comic books, video games and action films over the past four decades. A new game, GI Joe: Operation Blackout, was launched in October with a warm response. A new live action film that focuses on the silent ninja Snake Eyes, starring Henry Golding, is scheduled to be released in 2022.
