Fortnite Dev Epic Games bought an abandoned mall to become its next HQ

Epic Games bought an entire mall with plans to transform the unused site into its new headquarters in Cary, North Carolina. In a press release, Epic Games announced that it has purchased a 980,000 square foot, 87-acre Cary Towne Center mall that will become Epic Games’ new campus in 2024. This includes plans to create office buildings and recreational spaces for use by long term.

The development of the new HQ will begin later this year and, meanwhile, Epic Games will remain in its current location on Crossroad Boulevard in Cary, the city where Epic Games has been headquartered for more than 20 years.“We are extremely proud that Epic has chosen to call Cary home to its new global headquarters and we greatly appreciate the company’s recognition of Cary’s existing assets, as well as the area’s unlimited potential for its growing business,” Cary Mayor, Harold Weinbrecht said in a statement.

Epic maintains more than 50 offices worldwide, managing local and global aspects of its business. But the Cary headquarters will serve as the company’s base of operations.Unused malls have become a popular target for companies looking to create new offices and headquarters. Companies like Google and WeWork converted abandoned malls across the country for use in offices. So, if you happen to live in Cary and want to know what happened to that old town mall, Epic owns it.
