Former Washington QB Dwayne Haskins is due to visit Steelers on Thursday

The Pittsburgh Steelers are taking a look at the QB market.

NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Dwayne Haskins has an appointment with the Steelers on Thursday, according to sources informed of the situation.

In late December, Haskins was cut by the Washington Football Team before the end of the season, after just 13 games in less than two years.

The previous choice of the first round also recently visited the Carolina Panthers.

The Steelers surprisingly did not update their fourth QB in 2020, hanging with Mason Rudolph and Josh Dobbs after Ben Roethlisberger. With Big Ben’s future beyond this season in doubt, the Haskins encounter is an initial indication that Pittsburgh is looking for young callers next season.

The quick, though nominal, interest in Haskins underscores the latent talent that the Ohio state product harbors. Ex-choice of the first round, the QB has a large arm that can spread the ball across the field. However, poor mechanics and difficulties in reading defenses led to an inconsistent game. External concerns from Washington led to his release.

Haskins has talent if a club wants to nurture the 23-year-old who needs experience and positive training to put his career on track. Under Mike Tomlin, behind Big Ben, it can be a positive landing point for both parties if the visit results in a job.
