Former Villanova striker Cole Swider moves to Syracuse

Syracuse, NY – Cole Swider announced his decision to move from Villanova to Syracuse.

Swider, a six-foot-eight junior, made the announcement on his Twitter page.

Although a junior, Swider would have two years of eligibility remaining due to the NCAA’s decision to grant all winter sports athletes an extra year of eligibility due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Swider was a four-star contender in the 2018 class at St. Andrew’s School in Barrington, Rhode Island. He chose Villanova from a list of finalists that also included Syracuse.

In announcing his decision to leave Villanova, Swider reportedly received a renewed interest from Syracuse, along with Rutgers, Indiana, Florida and Arizona.

Last season, Swider averaged 18.8 minutes, 5.7 points and 2.8 rebounds per game. He made 40.2 percent of his attempts in the 3-point range.

Swider is the second player that Syracuse added to his 2021-22 list via the NCAA transfer portal.

Early last week, the transfer of Marquette Symir Torrence, a six-foot guard, announced her decision to attend Syracuse. Torrence was born in Syracuse and attended the Syracuse Academy of Science.

Syracuse had three players who announced their decisions to enter the portal. They include: sophomore striker Robert Braswell, freshman red-shirt center John Bol Ajak and freshman guard Kadary Richmond.
