If Everson Griffen wants to return to the Minnesota Vikings, he has a funny way of showing it.
The former defensive side of the Vikings, who left the team on free agency last season, apologized after posting a series of highly critical tweets by Kirk Cousins on Saturday.
Specifically, Griffen said that Cousins is “dumb” and implied that coach Mike Zimmer never wanted the defender. The tweets have already been deleted:
Griffen even denied the excuse that he was hacked in a tweet that is still active.
Hours later, Griffen was posting an apology to both Cousins and the Vikings.
I’m sorry for posting this about Kirk. It’s not right for me to call people out. I apologize for hurting you. I am very grateful and grateful.

@vikings I’m sorry for saying something negative. I love this organization. Vikings will always have a place in my heart. If you want, go get it. All true love.

Prior to this season, Griffen played his entire 10-year career with the Vikings and remains in the top 10 on his all-time sack list. He spent his last two years in Minnesota playing with Cousins in the center.
Griffen gave up his contract last spring and ended up signing a one-year contract with the Dallas Cowboys, who later negotiated him with the Detroit Lions for a conditional choice in the sixth round.
It can be said that these tweets were strangely timed, as Griffen had made it clear in the last few days that he wanted to return to the team whose quarterback he had just publicly insulted. On Thursday, Griffen posted a picture taken at a Vikings installation and said the following when asked by St. Paul Pioneer Press about a return to Vikings at the free agency:
“Tell them, I said, ‘If you want, go get it,'” said Griffen. “You can put this on.”
We will see if the Vikings are so interested in their end
