Former NFL scout predicts negotiation for Carson Wentz of the Eagles | Does the projected value make sense?

The Eagles are looking for a great achievement in exchange for quarterback Carson Wentz.

Although the Eagles are unlikely to come close to the asking price for a package like Matthew Stafford’s, there is reason to believe that they could get several draft choices for Wentz in exchange.

According to the former scout of the Eagles and Ravens, Daniel Jeremiah, several draft choices are likely to come in the way of the Eagles if they negotiate with the quarterback.

“It will be interesting to see what the eagles will receive for a Wentz exchange (if it happens),” Jeremiah tweeted Wednesday. “My guess – future choice of the 1st and current 2nd or 3rd round.”

Jeremiah, now the top NFL Draft analyst for the NFL Network, is still in the pulse of the league. A choice for Day 2 in 2021 and a choice for the first round in 2022 could be attractive to the Eagles, as the deal would provide an immediate return for Wentz, while increasing its value the following year.

If the Eagles decide to build around the defender’s position this offseason – and give Jalen Hurts a one-year test – they will want to add talent to the other positions on the depth chart. If Hurts faltered during their long-term selection, the Eagles would have another choice in the first round to keep up with the choice of the first round acquired in the Wentz exchange, giving them the flexibility to climb the board and pick up a QB with a choice of 5 first.

Jeremiah’s projection would be a kind of commitment for the Eagles. Instead of receiving an immediate choice in the first round, they would take advantage of Wentz’s value over two seasons, getting a lower starting value.

While the Eagles (and fans) may want immediate satisfaction, the NFL is facing another offseason impacted by COVID-19. The NFL Combine has already been dropped, so teams will have even less opportunity to study the prospects, some of which have chosen to leave last year’s college football season. There may be more value in waiting until next year to have a better choice, as the pandemic could end by then.

Overall, Jeremiah’s projection would be a solid comeback for the Eagles, who still hope to win Wentz.
