Former MLB star Johnny Damon, who won a World Series with the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees, was arrested in Florida on Friday morning on DUI charges, police said.

A policeman noticed a vehicle swerving on the road at around 1:30 am. After following the car for several blocks, the officer watched the driver, later identified as Damon, repeatedly “wandering back and forth” out of his lane and at one point, he hit a curb before also almost crashing on a railing.

Damon was stopped and, according to the police officer who arrested him, he was observed “extremely unstable on his feet” and was rolling his speech. The officer also detected “the odor of alcoholic impurities”.

The former Red Sox star told the officer he drank “just a little,” but the report indicated that Damon had a blood alcohol level greater than or equal to 0.20 – more than double the legal limit.

Other police details revealed that he was tested twice while in custody, once at 3:26 am and again a few minutes later. He recorded a blood alcohol level of .300 and .294, respectively – almost four times the legal limit almost two hours after the first stop in traffic.

Damon was charged and his wife, Michelle Mangan-Damon, was also arrested and accused of assaulting a police officer and of resisting a police officer with violence.

According to the arrest report, she repeatedly disobeyed the policeman’s order to remain in the vehicle during the traffic stop. The officer tried to contain her, but she pulled away and pushed him away. His worn-out camera was dropped as a result of the fight.

She was later arrested on the spot by the support police.

Damon has played 18 seasons in the MLB and is famous for helping to end the Red Sox curse after leading them to win the World Series in 2004 – the first in the franchise since 1918. He won his second ring with the Yankees in 2009.

TMZ Sports first reported Damon’s arrest. It was not immediately known if he was still in police custody on Friday afternoon.
