Former Bears RG Kyle Long returning to NFL

It seems that former Chicago Bears offensive guard Kyle Long is ready to return to the NFL.

According to Macon Gunter, co-host of the Green Light Pod with Chris Long, Kyle’s brother, the 32-year-old striker is finishing his retirement and will try to sign with a team in this off-season, after signing with the Select Sports Group.

Last played in 2019 by Bears, before being placed in the injury reserve a few weeks after the start of the season due to a hip problem. It was closed during the year and retired from football in early 2020.

The former Oregon Duck was chosen by the Bears in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft and made three Pro Bowl appearances in two different positions. Although he was one of his main leaders in the offensive line for many years, injuries have plagued him for the past four seasons in the league, which has led him to step away from the game.

After his retirement, Long got a job at CBS Sports as a studio analyst during the NFL season, but began to give hints that a return to football could be underway. He admitted this on the “Parkins & Spiegel” program at 670 The Score last week, when he said he lost the game every day.

If and when Long returns to the role of league official, he will be a free agent, as Bears released him from his contract last March. Although fans would love to see him back in Chicago, Long will likely play elsewhere, as he was not intimidated by his feelings about coach Matt Nagy on his way out of Halas Hall.
