Forgotten copy of Super Mario Bros. breaks auction record

Super Mario Bros., a fan-favorite iconic video game that has since spawned multiple variations, was first produced in 1986.

It features two brothers, Mario and Luigi, who live in the Mushroom Kingdom and are accused of rescuing Princess Toadstool, who was kidnapped by Bowser, the king of the Koopa. Complete with a recognizable theme song, Mario has remained a popular character with fans for decades.

According to the original instruction booklet’s narrative, the kingdom of the peaceful Mushroom People was invaded by the Koopa, a tribe of turtles that transformed the “peaceful and peaceful” Mushroom People into stones, bricks and plants. The only person who can reverse the spell is Princess Toadstool, the daughter of the Mushroom King.

In the game, players guide Mario on a mission to free the princess and save the kingdom of the Mushroom People. He navigates eight levels full of giant mushrooms, menacing turtles and other strange obstacles.

“You are Mario! It’s up to you to save the Mushroom People from Koopa’s black magic! ”The original instructions tell the players.

Since the debut of Super Mario Bros., the brothers have participated in several games, saving new lands and rescuing more princesses, including Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Odyssey. The latest, Super Mario 3D World, was released in February for the Nintendo Switch console.

Mario’s presence also goes beyond the world of video games.

In March, Super Nintendo World debuted at Universal Studios Japan in Osaka. Visitors can walk the well-known green tube at the entrance to the park, explore Princess Peach’s castle and eat hamburgers inside a giant mushroom, all with Mario’s theme song playing in the background.
