Those who follow the MacBook Pro 2021 rumors know that Apple’s next top-of-the-line laptop seems to be getting some of the ports it lost in 2016, when Apple threw everything away for the Thunderbolt 3 USB-C. But for those who don’t want to wait, Razer has a new option.
Meet the Razer Thunderbolt 4 Dock Chroma, which has all the ports you could ask for – plus RGB lighting (synchronization via Razer Synapse). And getting those ten doors in such a beautiful package will cost a lot: $ 329, to be exact.
Here is the complete list of ports:
- 4x Thunderbolt 4 USB-C
- 3x USB-A 3.2 Gen 2
- Gigabit Ethernet
- SD card reader
- Headphone plug
Of these, it is rumored that the next MacBook Pro will have an SD reader. USB-C will remain and MagSafe will return.
As for supported monitors, the dock provides output for dual panels at 4K at 60Hz or an 8K at 30Hz screen.
One of the TB4 ports, the SD reader and the headphone connector are at the front, while the rest is at the rear. Even if Macs don’t already have Thunderbolt 4, it should still be compatible. Compatibility with Razer Windows 10 and macOS laptops, as long as you have a Thunderbolt 3 port.
The fine print on the Razer page notes that “for M1 MacBooks, only one video output is supported” AND Intel-based Macs need at least one Thunderbolt 3 port while also running macOS 11.1 (Big Sur) or later.
But for those who want all the ports and a dock that fits on their RGB desktop, this seems like a good option (albeit an expensive one).
Oh, and the Thunderbolt 4 Dock Chroma will easily manage the power of your PC, providing up to 90 Watts on the TB4 port. That’s because it has its own energy input.
