Ford resembles some of the first Mustang Mach-E SUVs due to loose bolts

Ford is recalling dozens of the first deliveries of the Mustang Mach-E after discovering loose bolts during quality checks that are preventing shipments.

“[S]Some vehicles may have auxiliary screws that the supplier did not tighten to specifications, ”wrote Ford on Friday afternoon. “Although the problem with the affected vehicles is not up to Ford standards, the company is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this condition.”

Ford says 1,258 Mustang Mach-Es have been affected in the United States, as well as 90 in Canada, but the vast majority of them have not yet been shipped to customers. “Less than 75 customers who have already received delivery” will have to bring their Mustang Mach-E to repair, according to the company. Ford says it will start contacting these owners as of March 22.

The recall is miniscule by most standards, and so far it doesn’t seem as serious as, say, the Hyundai Kona EVs on fire. But it is another small hiccup at the launch of Ford’s first mass-market EV. The company has delivered about 4,000 Mustang Mach-E SUVs so far, but this week has delayed the launch of about 4,500 to do extra quality checks and is compensating some owners as a result. It is not clear whether these checks were prompted by the screw problem or some other suspicion.
