For parents, the Kamala Harris oath was an inspiring teaching moment for their children

Harris stood proudly on the steps of the United States Capitol while swearing an oath for Sonia Sotomayor, the country’s first Latin Supreme Court judge.

The innovative event was celebrated by many families, who shared photos of their daughters and sons witnessing the story on social networks.

“My daughters, watching history and learning, there should be NO LIMIT to what they can do. Thanks #KamalaHarris” wrote Lynell Miller on a Twitter post with a photo of his daughters sharing a hug.

Miller told CNN that last year was full of many learning moments for his children, and the opening day was a day to learn about grace, hope and potential. “That means I can be an astronaut when I grow up,” said Miller’s 6-year-old daughter, Eleanor.

Johnson said it is important for her to raise a child who sees strong women in leadership, especially strong women of color in leadership. “I think it makes us all better and our country better,” she said.
