Women’s Day
Ina Garten may be a Food Network legend who loves to cook for Jeffrey and offer dinner at her home in the Hamptons, but she is also much more like you and me than you might think. In fact, in a recent interview with Time, the Food Network star confessed four foods she will never touch. But she also revealed her favorite alcoholic beverage, and the only recipe that has confused her. Yes, even Countess Barefoot sometimes has problems in the kitchen.
You won’t find coriander in Garten’s vegetable or herb gardens. “I’m just not going to come close,” she said Time. Which is understandable. For some, coriander tastes like soap and leaves an unpleasant taste.
But she is also not a fan of dishes that include anatomical ingredients. “I’m not very good at things with eyes,” she said. We are assuming that this means things like whole roasted pigs and fish that have not been slaughtered beforehand.
Most surprisingly, she also observed “foam” as a faux pas for her palate. Does that mean you never delight in a latte or cappuccino, Ina ?! Our caffeine-pumping hearts break for you.
Your fourth and final culinary complaint? Grated parmesan cheese bought in the store. That’s right, the woman who declares that “buying at the store is good” simply cannot justify the pre-packaged treatment for that salty Italian cheese. And who can blame her? Grated recently from the block is a thousand times better.
In the interview, Garten also revealed his favorite drink. “Sour whiskey, every summer,” she told the news magazine. “But they have to be homemade, with fresh juice and a good bourbon – Knob Creek”.
And when she doesn’t have any bourbon on hand? “The other thing is a Sinskey Vineyards rosé.” She also likes the occasional aperol sprtiz.
But even Countess Descalça struggles with some culinary delicacies. “I have been working on Boston cream pie for about three books and I haven’t got the balance, flavors and textures right,” she said.
