FORT MYERS, Florida – Destanni Henderson felt that tonight’s Fourth Final game was always right.
“I’ve always dreamed of it, you know what I’m saying. I’m not going to sit here and say that I always doubted myself, ”said Henderson.
There is no reason for South Carolina Gamecocks Junior’s owner to have doubts about her game.
Everything she did on the court at all levels was highlighted.
“I’m just a positive person and you know that anything can happen. So great talent takes you there, ”said Henderson.
This season, Henderson started all 30 games and leads the team in steals and assists.
“Many people on the team, most everyone on the team admire me and expect me to be the leader on the court,” said Henderson.
What is similar to her high school days, when she was one of the top 10 national recruits, she played for the US team and perhaps most importantly won three state championships with Fort Myers.
An experience that was invaluable in his first race in a championship with the Gamecocks.
“I feel like I’m in the same position now. In high school I was a point guard, I had to be the team leader and now I feel like I’m in the same position where you know we’re close to the end of the season, we’re playing for something big, so I really have to step up my game, especially at this time of year and finish strong, ”said Henderson.
Similar to their days for the Greenies, the four finalists are good, but Henderson wants more.
“Being the team that will come out on top would be very good for us, you know we got here, we got to the four finalists. But you know that we’re not done. So, we just have to end up strong and keep positive energy with each other, ”said Henderson.
Henderson and the Gamecocks lost a broken heart to Stanford Cardinal 66-65, although Henderson scored 9 points for the teams and finished with 18 points and 5 rebounds.
Henderson is a junior and may return for his senior season in 2021-22.
