Flyers receive good news about COVID-19

While the Flyers waited in limbo for COVID-19, the team received some good news.

The number of players eliminated from the Flyers because of the COVID protocol did not increase on Wednesday.

Claude Giroux, Justin Braun and Travis Sanheim remained on the NHL’s COVID protocol list.

The Flyers, however, had their Sunday game against Rangers postponed. The team is not expected to play again until February 18 against Rangers at the Wells Fargo Center.

Giroux and Braun were placed on the COVID protocol list on Tuesday. Braun’s 34th birthday was on Wednesday. Sanheim has been sidelined since Sunday, when he lost the Flyers’ 7-4 victory over the Capitals for COVID protocol. The Flyers’ game against Washington at Capital One Arena on Tuesday was postponed.

The Flyers traveled home from Washington, DC, on Tuesday afternoon. Wednesday was already a scheduled day off for the club before its current coronavirus-related hiatus. By league protocol, all teams receive daily COVID-19 tests. If they are not on the road, the Flyers pass their tests at the Virtua Center Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, New Jersey.

The Flyers had four players placed on the COVID protocol list at some point this season. Shayne Gostisbehere missed the first six Flyers games after testing positive for COVID-19.

There are several factors that contribute to why a player can be placed on the list of COVID protocols. A player absent because of the COVID protocol does not necessarily mean that the player’s test is positive for the coronavirus.

The demons had 17 players on Wednesday’s COVID protocol list. The Flyers were scheduled to host New Jersey on Thursday and Saturday, but the games were postponed on Monday. The Devils haven’t played since January 31.

The Flyers are expected to return to training on Monday.
