Florida’s embarrassing bowl loss should motivate Bulldogs to Cincinnati

Georgia football fans are invited to meet their opponent every week with DawgNation and have a preview of the UGA keys to victory every week with Meet your opponent – presented by Banco Piedmont. Presenter Brandon Adams examines key stories involving trainer Kirby Smart and the Georgia Bulldogs as they try to navigate an unprecedented schedule in search of a SEC championship and a spot in the college football playoff. This week’s edition of Know Your Opponent focuses on what to expect when Georgia faces Cincinnati at the Peach Bowl and why former great UGA Terrence Edwards thinks Bulldogs should pay close attention to what happened to Florida before they hit the field on Friday.

The former UGA major says the embarrassing loss of the Florida bowl should motivate Bulldogs to Cincinnati

The cup season is often unpredictable, but the intrigue may be even greater this season due to the lack of out-of-conference confrontations during the regular season and the growing trend of players who choose not to play in the postseason.

These facts almost certainly made coaches wonder what they will get from their teams in their bowl games and how to motivate them to do their best.

When it comes to Georgia’s Peach Bowl clash with Cincinnati on Friday, former UGA wide receiver Terrence Edwards has a suggestion: he says not to look any further than Florida’s embarrassing defeat for Oklahoma in Wednesday night.

The Sooners smothered the Gators 55-20 in the Cotton Bowl and, after the game, Florida coach Dan Mullen offered a litany of excuses for his team’s failures. Edwards says UGA does not want to be in the same position on Friday night after playing against the Bearcats.

There are, of course, many reasons to believe that UGA will be more stuck than the Gators – although some Bulldogs players decide to opt out of the game.

Senior safety Richard LeCounte is working to return from an injury, the NFL’s chosen future, Tyson Campbell, has promised his devotion to the team and others have echoed a similar sentiment.

It remains to be seen what the results will be for UGA in the game against an opponent who is undefeated, boasting a top-10 ranking and was praised by many for inclusion in the college football Playoff. However, the safe bet is that Bulldogs – for reasons stated by Edwards and beyond – will be trapped and ready to compete.
