Florida shark attack turns Minnesota family’s tropical trip into a nightmare

A Minnesota family saw their planned fun-filled tropical trip turn into a nightmare when their autistic 9-year-old son was bitten by a shark on Sunday on a South Florida beach.

“A shark tried to eat me in the ocean,” said young Jay Weiskopf of the three-meter-long shark. He left Miami Jackson Memorial Hospital on Tuesday after receiving 120 points.

“A wave came and we kind of surfed the body, and when he got up, he just said, ‘ouch’, and a piece of his shoulder was missing,” his mother Kristine Weiskopf told WSVN, Fox’s affiliated TV station. in Miami.

The family was in Minnesota on spring break and Jay had been in the water for only five minutes when he was attacked.

The mother rescued the boy from the surf and Miami Beach Fire Rescue found the family in the sand.

Florida is a paradise for shark attacks, but not just in this country. The Sunshine State is the number one spot for shark attacks in the world, according to a file from the Florida Museum.

Almost all attacks are not fatal year on year.

Kristine said she is grateful that her son is so tough and she is happy that he is doing well.

“Obviously, it’s a traumatic and terrible event, but we thank God it’s over,” said Ren Weiskopf, Jay’s father.

The mother now wants to keep her son close; she has slept beside him since the attack and she always wants to hug him.
