Florida man infected with UK variant COVID-19, says health department

The Florida Department of Health said on Thursday that it found evidence of the first identified case of the UK’s COVID-19 variant in the state.

The department said the man with a positive test is in his 20s and lives in Martin County, on the Treasure Coast. He has no travel history, according to the FDOH.

The department is working with the CDC on the investigation and said it encourages everyone to continue practicing COVID-19 mitigation.

“At the moment, experts predict little or no impact on the effectiveness of the COVID-19 vaccine,” tweeted the department.

This is a developing story.
