Florida golfer drowns after looking for a lost ball in the lake, police say

A Florida golfer reportedly drowned on Sunday morning after looking for his lost golf ball in a lake, officials said.

Hermilo Jazmines, 74, was playing golf with a friend at the East Lake Woodlands Country Club in Oldsmar, about 25 miles northwest of Tampa, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. At around 7:37 am, Jazmines pulled out of hole three and was last seen looking for his ball near the lawn, the office said.

The deputies were called in after Jazmine was reported missing, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Jazmines’ golf cart was parked on the way and his club was found on the ground near the water,” said the sheriff’s office.

After Oldsmar police and emergency personnel searched the wooded area extensively, the submarines located Jazmines’ body submerged in the water near his club.

Jazmines was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

The sheriff’s office said the coroner’s office would conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and form of the death, but his death “did not appear to be suspect at this time”.

Oldsmar is a small town with a population of around 14,600.
