Florida golfer, 74, apparently drowns after looking for a stray ball

A Florida golfer was found dead on Sunday and is believed to have drowned after falling into a golf club’s lake while looking for his missing ball, officials said.

Hermilo Jazmines, 74, of Lutz, was found by a law enforcement dive team submerged in the water near his club, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Investigators say the evidence suggests that the Jazmines may have fallen into the water and drowned,” officials said. “Deputies spoke to friends from Jazmines who say they like to look for lost golf balls on the course.”

Jazmines was playing golf with a friend at the East Lake Woodlands Country Club in Oldsmar on Sunday morning when investigators said he attacked on the third hole and was last seen “looking for his ball near the green”.

The deputies were called in after Jazmines was reported missing. They scoured a wooded area nearby and helped the Oldsmar Fire Department scour the pond’s edge.

Authorities said the coroner’s office would conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and form of the death, “however, it does not appear to be suspicious at the moment.”
