Florida debuts pre-registration site for COVID-19 vaccine

The state of Florida has launched a website where eligible Floridians can pre-register for a COVID-19 vaccination.

What do you need to know

  • Eligible floridians can now pre-register for COVID-19 vaccination at myvaccine.fl.gov
  • Those who are not yet eligible can sign up for email updates about when they will be
  • New website arrives because the offer cannot keep up with the demand for vaccines

The website, https://myvaccine.fl.gov, allows people to choose their county and “get in line”.

“While we await the supply of additional vaccine from the Federal Government, we ask currently qualified Florida residents to save their place in the queue by pre-registering today,” says the website.

Eligible to obtain vaccination in Florida include people aged 65 and over, residents and employees of long-term care facilities, health professionals with direct contact with the COVID patient and adults with certain comorbidities that would make them extremely vulnerable.

The state is struggling to keep up with public demand for COVID-19 vaccines, which has stalled and interrupted appointment scheduling systems and spawned nighttime car queues across the state. A vaccine distribution site at Daytona Stadium in Daytona Beach transitioned from a first-come, first-served delivery system to a backup system after the elderly showed up hours earlier and slept in their vehicles in a 40-degree climate.

Two weeks ago, the Florida Department of Health launched a telephone reservation system as a pilot program in Miami-Dade County. Last week, the program was expanded to Hillsborough, Broward, Duval and Lee counties.

Governor Ron DeSantis promoted an “Elderly First” initiative, providing vaccination at Publix pharmacies in select counties.
