A flood warning for the island of Hawaii has expired, but flood surveillance remains in effect until Sunday afternoon.

The National Meteorological Service issued a flood warning for the island of Hawaii until 4:15 pm today.
At 1:11 pm, the radar indicated heavy, almost stationary rain on the lower slopes of Kona, impacting the Holoualoa area to Keahole Point. The rain was falling at a rate of up to 1 inch per hour, with additional heavy rain expected to continue on the slopes this afternoon.
The locations on the notice include, but are not limited to Kailua-Kona, Captain Cook, Kealakekua, Kainaliu, Honaunau, Honalo, Kahaluu-Keauhou, Holualoa and Kalaoa.
The public should stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low-lying areas subject to flooding, while remaining aware that rain and runoff can cause dangerous driving conditions.
No one should cross waters with fast or increasing flow, by vehicle or on foot.

Strong waves, strong winds, a flood and snow warning for the peaks of Ilha Grande are part of Hawaii’s climate forecast today.
A high surf alert continues to the east coast of all major islands, as strong winds, with gusts located at up to 72 km / h, continue to parts of Maui County and the island of Hawaii today.
The National Meteorological Service expects to surf 9 to 13 feet along the east coast of all islands from Kauai to the island of Hawaii today at 6am on Monday.
The impacts are moderate, but strong, waves and breaking currents make swimming difficult and dangerous, and swimmers should follow all advice from ocean safety authorities.
Elsewhere, surfing is stable at 4 to 6 feet to the north coast, 3 to 5 feet to the south coast and 2 to 4 feet to the west coast, today and Saturday.
The wind report for parts of Maui County and the island of Hawaii was extended until 6 pm today, and may be extended further tonight due to east winds of 20 to 30 mph, with localized gusts of up to 45 mph .
Such strong winds are able to knock down trees and temporary structures and cause local power outages.
Today’s forecast includes partly cloudy skies, with isolated showers and highs of 79 to 84 degrees Fahrenheit. The sky tonight remains cloudy, with minimum temperatures of 67 to 72 degrees.
Meteorologists said strong and stormy deals are expected to continue early next week. Tradewinds may decline slightly tonight, but a new high is expected over the weekend, boosting trading once again.
The NWS also issued a flood alert for parts of the island of Maui and Hawaii, in effect from 6 pm today until Sunday afternoon.
Meteorologists say that a “persistent valley at the top” will bring the potential for a prolonged period of rain to the windward areas of Maui and the island of Hawaii. Repeated streaks of heavy rain saturating the soil will produce an increasing threat of flooding over the weekend.
Periods of snow and freezing rain are also expected at the peaks of Ilha Grande due to the sub-zero temperatures brought by this valley.
A winter weather warning remains in effect for the Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa peaks until noon on Monday.
Authorities warn that traveling to the summit can be very difficult due to the icy roads.
A gale warning remains in effect for the Alenuihaha Canal until 6pm on Friday.
A small boat warning remains in effect for all waters from northwestern Kauai to the southeast of the island of Hawaii until 6pm on Sunday.
