Lindsey Buckingham was publicly fired from Fleetwood Mac in 2018 and Mick Fleetwood has been adamant that Buckingham would not return to the band. In early 2020, the band’s co-founder said he would never meet with Buckingham after bringing Mike Campbell from Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers and Neil Finn from Crowded House to replace him on a Mac Fleetwood tour.
But in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Fleetwood changed his mind about Buckingham. The two are apparently doing well after they started talking again after the death of Fleetwood Mac guitarist Peter Green last year. “I really enjoyed being reconnected with Lindsey, who was gracious and open,” said Fleetwood in the interview. “And the two of us have been wonderfully honest about who we are and how we got to where we were.”
When asked if Buckingham would return to Fleetwood Mac for a hypothetical farewell tour, he replied: “Strange things can happen. I see Fleetwood Mac as a big family. Everyone plays an important role in our history, even someone like [early Seventies] guitarist Bob Welch, who was huge and is sometimes overlooked. Lindsey’s position at Fleetwood Mac will never be forgotten, for obvious reasons, as it should never be forgotten. “
He continued: “My view of things that happen in the future is really comprehensive. I would love to think that [reunion] it could happen? Yes. I would love to think that we could all be healed and also respect the people in the band, Neil Finn and Michael Campbell. “
One critical point remains: the contentious relationship between Buckingham and Stevie Nicks, which is part of the reason why Buckingham was fired in 2018. “I can’t talk about the dynamic with Stevie and him.
