FKA twigs said she was the target of racist abuse during her relationship with Robert Pattinson.
The singer, who was engaged to the actor before her split in 2017, said she was subjected to “offensive and ignorant” comments from some of her fans during their three-year relationship.
Speaking to Louis Theroux at Grounded podcast, Twigs said: “People call me the most painful, ignorant and horrible names on the planet.”
“He was their white Prince Charming and they considered him to be with someone white and blond.”
Opening up to how abuse affected her, Twigs continued, “It’s essentially bullying and it affects you psychologically.”
She went on to explain that she would never “deny” her previous relationships, but admitted that none of them should be “defined” by the time they spent together.
“I’m not trying to deny my story, I just think it’s important that it’s not defined by it, because it doesn’t have to be defined by it,” she said.
In the same interview with Theroux, the singer talked about her previous relationship with Shia LaBeouf, saying that it made her “feel like the worst person of all time”.
Last month (December 11), the musician filed a lawsuit against the actor, accusing him of “relentless abuse” during the previous relationship, including sexual assault, aggression and the imposition of emotional suffering.
LaBeouf responded to the claims of Twigs, and another ex-girlfriend Karolyn Pho, at the time, saying that “many of these claims are not true”, but said that he owed women “the opportunity to publicly expose their statements and accept responsibility for the things they made “.
Speaking on the podcast, Twigs said he wanted to talk about his experiences “because it is something in society that is a big problem and very common, but for some reason, we don’t talk about it”.
